Stay True to Your Art and Not the Trends

Writing as an art provides valuable expression for society.

While everyone has different reasons for writing, true artists shouldn’t write what others want.

Some say, “Write what people want to read according to the trends,” which might expedite making money, yet isn’t a true artistic expression.

What Art Is

Art is an expression the artist wants others to understand or experience.

True art expresses a unique and original message or meaning to others, as this is the artist’s work and contribution to society and community.

Writing can be an art form, expression through the written word; an article is a piece of art, expressing the artist’s unique creation to others in society and humanity.

Notes on AI Art

Some may specialize in AI art as though it were written word art, yet without human expression, it can only be AI art at best.

The imitation of art by robots doesn’t express what a unique human would, rather, it expresses the culmination of all human information and knowledge — see the difference?

Business/Trades or Art

Again, there are many types of writers, especially online, so I’m not saying one is good or bad, just clarifying the difference between art and business.

Business writing, technical writing, and marketing are different in the traditional meaning of art; even non-fiction is different than fiction in its measure of artistic creativity.

Having a skill or trade with words is great, yet it isn’t art any more than a house painter or the trades are art. However, I do believe each trade and work effort is a form of art in some measure, as each person’s unique efforts are added to society on many different creative levels.

Art, as a creative way of expressing a society or people, helps people reflect upon important things that bring value overall. It helps people understand themselves better and what they are part of in the bigger picture.

True Art is Powerful

True art helps people be free.

Art helps us express things otherwise not possible.

The powers to be want to control art because it influences people so strongly. It is a threat to their illusions and deceptions.

This is why tyrannical countries stifle art and put fakes and sellouts in the mainstream as artists. True art can still be found locally and regionally at smaller levels, but will never be allowed to organically reach the masses, even through online channels.

Conclusion

Stay true to what you want to express, rather than writing what other people want. Whether many people want to read it or not, writing artists need to express their unique views and creative meanings, as this is what brings value to others.

In the end, this is the true strategy of success with writing as an art form.

Opinion: Most communities in Oregon and the US are Republican, yet Democrats are in charge

2022 Oregon Governor Election Photo  Assuming election results are valid in Oregon, which does take a lot of faith these days after the questions about the 2020 US Presidential election arose, Democrat Tina Kotek won the Governor’s race in 2022 by a slim margin over Republican Christine Drazan. The interesting aspect of this win is how many of Oregon’s 36 counties voted Republican vs. Democrat. Looking at the political map, almost the entire state is red with only a few small counties in the northwest having the blue color. Specifically, there were 7 counties that voted Democrat and 29 that voted Republican. The difference is the 7 counties voting blue are the most populous counties, also the counties with the most residents coming from other states – much like Tina Kotek herself, a transplant from Pennsylvania . Tina only won the campaign to be Oregon’s 39th Governor by 66,727 votes over Christine Drazan. Said in another way, the Democrats pulled off another close election with m...

10 Famous Movies Filmed in Oregon Part 2

It shouldn’t be too surprising that Oregon with its amazing scenery and diverse natural landscape has been used to make movies for the big screen. Still, with such a relatively small population it is somewhat amazing how many movies have been filmed here over the years. After naming 10 movies in part one , it became apparent there needed to be a part two, as these are just as famous, so here goes from oldest to newest. 1. Paint Your Wagon (1969): Having Clint Eastwood star in a musical isn’t likely, but he did star in this American Western musical in the late 60s and even did his own singing. The film also stars Lee Marvin and Jean Seberg and was directed by Joshua Logan. Most of the movie production happened near Baker City, Oregon, a small city in Eastern Oregon with around 10k residents and at 3451 ft. elevation. The plot centers around a mining camp in the California Golf Rush era in the mid-1800s. 2. Five Easy Pieces (1970): Starring Jack Nicholson, this early 70s drama was filme...

An Ode to Grandpa Lee

An old-time pioneer amid modern vanity and "progress." The man stood tall in the wind with the sun beating down on his flat-brim cowboy hat. He was a working man, focused on his pioneer family in the western country they called home. Building and designing structures high and wide, the man skipped across wooden beams high in the air, under shadows cast only by moving clouds; wide open spaces watched the scene as death-defying feats were carried out in relative obscurity, as just another day of work. The man was an old-timer with relatively few years to boast, a before his time pioneer with an adventurous and loving wife plotting business in sagebrush lands far beyond the hyped city life bustling with seemingly meaningless activities. His skin was as leather, scorched in the sun and beaten with high winds containing drifting sand mixed with alkaline dirt. The dry mountain air in the high desert cleansed his heart with comfortable respite from the high temps and harsh weather e...

3 Reasons to Prioritize Capital Equipment Planning During Healthcare System Mergers

From 1998 to 2015, over 1,400 hospital mergers have transpired in the U.S . They’ve been increasing nearly every year, especially since the ACA was enacted in 2010. Healthcare systems are consolidating for both financial and strategic reasons; these challenging and complex transactions bring growth opportunities as well as risks. An article found on CIO called: “What is merger and acquisition due diligence?” , written on June 9th, 2015 by Dewey E. Ray, explains the 4 areas of due diligence to focus on:  “Strategic Position    Financial Data    Operational Assets    Legal Matters”  Operational assets are a major aspect of M&A planning and implementation. Effectively dealing with the capital equipment involved in a transaction takes consideration, strategy, and organizational software tools. In this regard, let’s discuss 3 reasons to prioritize capital equipment planning during healthcare system mergers. Definition of Capit...
