For those of us who believe our writing is a reflection of our values and a unique expression of our souls, finding the right platform to write on is important. Of course, there are practical aspects we must consider as well, depending on the purpose and reason for the words, etc.
In this respect, I want to explore the idea of writing on LinkedIn vs. Medium. For non-robot people who actually take the time to write from their hearts instead of using AI to create some “content.” AI writers may create content, but they are not writers; they are just using words (however manifested) to essentially get attention and make money.
Medium is a very clean and user friendly platform for writers, and the possibility of making money there with their partner program sounds great, especially, considering the popularity of the site. Yet, I’ve found through much effort, Medium is simply an illusion for 99% of the writers that find their way there, paying their monthly dues.
See, you have to now pay Medium to be eligible for the partner program, which means at least $60/year, and if you happen to be a real sucker, you might be paying around $180 to be in their friend program or whatever it is called. And, is this worth it?
Well, you’ll have to decide ultimately if it is worth paying for. I’ve found after a half dozen years of paying the $5/month, it isn’t worth it. Why, well, I was simply paying the favored members my money, almost all of which I didn’t like or align with when it comes to their values or perspectives.
See, Medium, like most platforms online, is very liberal, and the only writers that get boosted or curated are select liberal-minded types, writing about topics that go against the Holy Bible and decent social mores. The worst part is, as a paying member, I was helping to contribute to their bank accounts, and those woke liberals who run the platform.
Well, not anymore. I decided to not only stop paying the monthly fee, but to delete my account completely. It wasn’t an easy decision, considering it is such a nice platform for writers, the clean, no ad look, with a great profile showing my books, etc.
I realized that very few writers make more than they pay each month. And even fewer make a decent amount. Essentially, the game is rigged over there, they favor certain liberal writers and string all the others along to pay for their exorbitent salaries.
The last draw for me was my articles not getting hardly any views. I had nearly 1k followers and hundreds of articles, yet my view count for a new article after a month was around 2 with maybe 1 read. It didn’t used to be this way with Medium, but that is how it was in the end. BTW, I deleted my account around 8 months ago.
Even the name Medium is occultic, as it alludes to the art of speaking to the dead. Think about it. Of course, LinkedIn used to have masonic emblems for badges...
At least at LinkedIn, I don’t have to pay money to a select few liberal writers and a staff of lazy woke fools. And, I get more views here.
I’ve written two articles here in the last month (the ones before were copywriting articles), and they both have gotten double digit views, which is much better already than Medium ever gave. The first one has over 20 views and the second one is over 12 so far. Not bad.
Of course, I don’t make any money from these, yet at least I’m not losing money like at Medium.
That is the game at Medium, you pay $5 a month, write and work the platform, and make .20 cents a month, which means $4.80 goes to the favored few and the lazy fools in charge. If you think about how many writers are in this boat, you can start to see what a scam the platform really is. Say there are 1 million paying members (that is what search tells me), paying an average of $8 a month after their earnings, that is $8 million each month!
So, they pay their favored few about 1 million, and keep the rest for their “hard working” fools on salary. Hey, that is capitalism (the same word they hate as liberal communist), yet I don’t like how they pretend it is a platform for regular writers to make money.
I don’t like the pretense of Medium, making it seem like it is a platform for any writer to make money and get exposure, cause that just isn’t true.
In fact, a regular writer, who isn’t an AI half-robot, nor a pragmatic “branding genius” using words to simply build their online presence; well, they will have much better success on platforms like LinkedIn and Substack, where they actually have a fair shot at building an audience, and not be shadow banned to the back corners of obscurity and made to feel like they just don’t have the proper writing prowess.
Vocal is much like Medium by the way, yet at least they pay writers that aren’t members and for organic search views. Still, it is a very liberal platform that only gives favor to the most radically woke writers, much like Medium.
Medium is a special kind of scam, and it has only gotten worse over the years. They pretend to be a place for businesses to get exposure, a sort of neutral platform where everyone gets a fair shot. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
That is what bothers me about the platform, how it pretends, how it plays on the heartstrings of writers, stringing them along just to take their money each month and give it to their favored liberal writers through the mysterious partner program with its nebulous distribution methods.
I’m thankful to have escaped the scam, even though I was caught in the web for many years, trying to break through and find some traction in the miasma of liberal madness. I thought being a conservative, Christian, voice in a platform of darkness might inspire some people, might do some good, yet not if I’m banished through shadow banning to an obscure corner of the site.
I’m thankful to now put my efforts on LinkedIn and Substack, where there is more meritocracy involved, where there is no scam being conducted at my expense, and where any results depend more on my efforts than some favor from liberal fools.
Hopefully, this will help someone cut the Medium cord and stop being extorted and strung along for some false promise. Although, I’m sure there will be some favored liberals there who have a stark opposite opinion, or some self-censored neutral hack who desperately wants to be one of the favored and never will be, yet, still, I’m confident, the majority of Medium writers are in the same boat, even with their neutral or slightly liberal voices. Not all liberals are curated, only the select few, and only those who are woke have any chance.
